Brought across from katha/ns. READING ORDER: determined by the site's own contents page ns.asp, which links ns1 to ns20 in document order with no gaps; confidence high. Three independent signals agree exactly. (1) ns.asp links ns1..ns20 in document order, complete - better evidence than katha/bs, whose contents page stops at 18 of 23. (2) A cumulative back-link staircase: each instalment links to every instalment before it and to none after it, which holds for all 19 instalments that have sibling links, with ns1 correctly having none. That reconstructs the order from the link graph alone, with no reference to any filename. (3) The numeric filename suffix, ns1..ns20, a dense run, which agrees. NOT VERIFIED: nobody has read these pages in order to confirm they follow on. TITLE: confidence probable. Found in the first chapter's own converted text, alone in its paragraph and entirely bold, sitting between the author's biography and the first line of the prose - and at bold run 4 of all 21 pages in the directory. The ordinary title rule cannot find it: spike 3's chrome rule discards any bold string appearing in three or more files, and a serialised work prints its title on every instalment. NOT VERIFIED: this is a candidate read out of the converted text, not a title anybody has confirmed.

Reading a column

Some longer works were published a part at a time, over several issues. A novel might run to eight or ten parts. This site keeps them together.

The bar at the top of a part tells you which work you are reading and how far through it you are, for example "Part 3 of 8". Tapping Contents in that bar shows you the whole list.

At the foot of a part there are two cards, one for the part before and one for the part after, each showing its title so you know what is coming. On a phone there is also a small bar along the bottom of the screen with Previous, Contents and Next, so you never have to scroll back up to move on.

The contents page lists every part in reading order, numbered. That order is the order they were written in, not the order of their dates: some parts have no recorded date at all, and where a date does exist it is the date of the magazine rather than the place of the part in the story.
